Why Cannot Add an Interunit Transfer in Case there is no Sufficient Stock?

(Doc ID 2399435.1)

Last updated on MAY 16, 2018

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise SCM Inventory - Version 9.2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

It was noticed if the Source BU Fulfillment Option has <Allow Interunit BackOrders = Y> then the system allows to create the InterUnit transfer (IUT).

Otherwise, if the Source BU Fulfillment Option has <Allow Interunit BackOrders = N> then the system returns the following message if there is not enough quantity in stock while it is expecting so:

< There is insufficient quantity available to transfer the item from this business unit. (11100,209)

There is insufficient quantity available to transfer the item from this business unit. The quantity available is less than the assigned par quantity for the business unit and item on this order line. You can view the business units with sufficient transfer quantity for this item in the InterUnit Stock Level Inquire page.
>

As per PeopleBooks is not very clear about the flag:
<<<
Allow Interunit Backorders

Select to create backorders for the remaining quantity of an interunit transfer that is only partially fulfilled. If you do not select this option, PeopleSoft Inventory fulfills only as much as is available for interunit requests; the remaining quantity must be requested from another business unit.
>>>

So if it is changed the Fulfillment Options to Allow Interunit Backorders, it can create Transfers before the stock actually exists and plan ahead.

Steps to Reproduce the Issue:
---------------------
1. Check the Item Balance By Item with zero stock
2. Fulfillment Option - Allow Interunit BackOrders = Y
4. Create Stock Request (internal Issue)
Navigation Inventory>Fulfill Stock Orders>Stock Requests>Create/Update Stock
Request
Unit = US010, Request Type = Internal Issue.
As result it was not created.
5. Fulfillment Option - Allow Interunit BackOrders = N
6. Create Stock Request (InterUnit Transfer)
Navigation Inventory>Fulfill Stock Orders>Stock Requests>Create/Update Stock
Request
Unit = US010, Request Type = InterUnit Transfer.
Save and as result the system returns the following message if there is not enough quantity in stock.

< There is insufficient quantity available to transfer the item from this
business unit. (11100,209)
