Symptoms
Customer saying for one employee their paychecks won't display as a pdf to either the employee or Payroll admin.
All other employees work fine. Testing using delivered XMLP Templates could not replicate the issue.
Requesting customer to retest the issue with a trace.

Set the PSXP_DEBUG property = true on the report definition so that the temporary BIP files will be retained under the application server or process scheduler %PS_SERVDIR%\files\xmlp directory

From the trace file found the error: Error invoking 'lpad':'java.lang.NegativeArraySizeException'.
