E-MCF: "javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException: Command received in Invalid state." Error received when Running Mail Connection Test from PeopleTools> MCF> Email> Sample Pages (Doc ID 2528592.1)

Symptoms

The site is switching from POP3  to IMAP4 for Exchange 2010 mail server.  When the sample mail connection test is run from PeopleSoft application,  the following error is received on the email connection test page:

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
Main Menu> PeopleTools> MCF> Email> Sample Pages

Impact: The mail server test is used to verify connection with the mail server.  If this connection test fails, then the RB_MAIL_READ process that reads the mails from mail server and retrieves them in the PSFT application will not work either. The RB_MAIL_READ process is an integral part of the application that provides ERMS functionality.
