INAS Calculated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Incorrectly - Using Full Needs Test Instead of Simplified or Auto Zero (Doc ID 2595960.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 03, 2021

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise CS Financial Aid - Version 9 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After INAS is invoked by any method for loaded 2020 - 2021 ISIRs, there is a discrepancy between the INAS EFC and what the Central Processing Systems (CPS) is calculating.

The issue does not affect all records, just some. The common factor is students who should qualify for either the Auto Zero EFC or Simplified Needs test, where the 1040 was filed but Schedule 1 was not, and in these cases INAS is calculating based on the full needs test instead.

The issue can be replicated at will with the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Financial Aid > Federal Application Data > Correct 2020-2021 ISIR records > for dependent student calculated as Formula 4 where a 1040 is indicated as field and Schedule 1 is indicated as 'no'.
  2. Click INAS button.
Note: As indicated in step 1, the Schedule 1 indicator should be "no", not blank. The issue as seen with a 1040 filed but schedule 1 BLANK is a different situation. See also the additional related notes in the cause and solution sections.
