EAM: Error Using Page & Field Config To Make Tag Number Required When Adding New Asset Online (Doc ID 2647317.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 12, 2020

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise FIN Asset Management - Version 9.2 to 9.2 [Release 9]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

When using the Page and Field Configurator to set the Tag Number field to required and the Taggable Asset field default to 'Y' on the Basic ADD component, a downstream impact occurs when the asset is saved initially without the Tag Number present.  During the first save attempt, an Asset ID is assigned, the Tag Number field turns red and a pop up message states that the Tag Number is required.  After adding the Tag Number and saving again, a second ADD transaction is created.  Two pending ADD rows are created for each book.

Depr Calc runs to success but one set (2 books) of the ADD transactions remains in “Processing” status and the other set completes as expected. Subsequent asset additions cannot be completed as expected.  The previous asset ID is assigned to the next addition and a data conflict error occurs.

The expectation is that one set of ADD transactions will be created in the ps_open_trans for the new asset with tag number entered. The ADD will be depreciated successfully and a new asset addition with a new asset id will be successfully saved and depreciated.

This issue can be replicated by performing the following steps:

1. Set up the Page and Field Configurator to make Tag Number required and Taggable Asset default to 'Y' on the Basic Add component.
2. Add a new asset and save without entering Tag Number.
3. Upon receiving the message stating that Tag Number is required, enter the value and click on save again.
4. Review the pending transactions and note that there are 2 ADD transactions for each asset book.
5. Calculate the depreciation for the asset.
6. Review the pending transactions and note that there is an ADD transaction in complete status for each book and an ADD transaction in processing for each book.
7. Attempt to add a new asset on the Basic ADD component. Note that a unique constraint will occur because the asset id from steps 2-6 is used for the new asset.
