E-DPK: PT 8.58 DPK Deployment on Some Linux VMs is Slower than Normal (Doc ID 2650445.1)

Last updated on JUNE 04, 2020

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.58 to 8.58 [Release 8.4]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

When installing on a Linux VM using the -–use_alternate_puppet_install option with the DPK setup script, the deployment may take noticeably longer than if you install without that option. This performance issue has been observed on Linux VMs that run on xen and kvm hypervisors.
This issue applies to PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.58.01, 8.58.02, and 8.58.03 patches.

For information on this option, see the documentation on the Oracle's PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.58 Home Page, Installation and Upgrade page, My Oracle Support, Doc ID 2602329.2.

This performance issue has been fixed in PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.58.04. When installing on a Linux VM with xen or kvm hypervisor, the steps documented here are not necessary. The log files will include a message such as “Facter Xen/KVM workaround - is not accessible, setting environment variable FACTER_virtual=generic.”
