E-IB: Third Party Returns an "ExternalSystemContactException Untrusted Server Certificate Chain" or "ExternalSystemContactException Unsupported record version Unknown-0.0" Error When IB Connects to a Site that Uses SNI Certificates (Doc ID 2689672.1)

Last updated on MARCH 03, 2023

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.55 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Site is on PeopleTools (PT) 8.56.08, and has an outbound REST integration with a third party that uses SNI certificate. When sending a REST request, the following errors are seen in the Integration Broker (IB) errorLog.html.
A review of the integrationGateway.properties file showed that the ig.UseDomainName.ExternalOperationNames SNI setting contained the service operation name.

Remember that even though the error returned in this case is the one shown below, it will vary and depends on the third party.  The error could be "Untrusted Server Certificate Chain", "SSLException: Received fatal alert: internal_error", the one shown below, or others.

The issue can be reproduced using the following steps:
1. Create the service, service operation, and other components, to a third party that uses SNI certificates.
2. Send the outbound request, and observe the error above.
