Symptoms

When running the loan origination process, the following error occurs, as indicated in the COBOL output log file:

The final special character �, or one like it, may or may show in the log output.

In at least one instance, specific to release 9.2, the issue occurred after selectively adopting fixes over several PUM Images starting after the last one applied in full to the target environment.
