Symptoms
On Campus Solutions, when performing a Person Search involving the related language view PEOPLE_SRCH_LN, the SQL statement that runs produces a Cartesian product and the query may run for a very long time.
When logged in using a language other than English and a component has a related language search record defined, the SQL is modified to join the related language search record. Note that there is a Union sql produced. The Union performs an implicit Distinct, whereby the Cartesian product produced in both parts the Union is resolved and the end user will not notice a problem ( if they have provided enough criteria to limit the number of rows produced!).
However the Database must resolve both Sql's of the Union before this implicit Distinct is performed. This can lead to the user's session having timed out long before the database has (if ever) resolved the Sql.
It is expected a person search will generate a SQL statement that does not produce a cartesian product.
