E-IB: Pinging External Node Using SFTPTARGET Connector Returns "Invalid Record.field Operand For The @ Operator. (2,147)" Error

Symptoms
Site created an Integration Broker (IB) external node that uses SFTPTARGET connector. The node was configured with the properties in Step 2 of the "Steps to replicate" shown below. Pinging the node from the node definition page returned the following error.
Steps to replicate:
1. Log into PIA, and create an external Node definition that uses SFTPTARGET Connector (navigation: {PeopleTools > Integration Broker > Integration setup > Nodes).
2. Use the following properties for the node definition.
Properties configured:
sendUncompressed = Y
BASE64ENCODE = Y
CHARSET = UTF-8
METHOD = GET
REMOTEFILENAME = Test1.txt
URL = sftp://<my_ftp_server>...
3.Save the node definition.
4. Ping the node, and observe that the error above is returned.
