E-DPK: DPK Deployment on Linux Fails with Error "Installation of Puppet Software Failed, GEM executable not found" (Doc ID 2794061.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to deploy a DPK, the following step fails :

Execution -
./psft-dpk-setup.sh --env_type midtier --deploy_only

Step Failure -
Verifying if Puppet Software is installed:                           [FAILED]

Installation of Puppet Software Failed, GEM executable not found

Exiting the PeopleSoft environment setup process.

The following error can be seen in the psft_dpk_setup.log file :

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Download PeopleTools DPK's into DPK_INSTALL directory and unzip the first zip to this DPK_INSTALL directory
2. Execute the PeopleSoft PeopleTools Deployment
3. See the above error
