E-MCF/WF: MCFOutboundEmail Performance Issue when Submitting Absence Requests Transactions for Approval (Doc ID 2828541.1)

Last updated on MAY 17, 2023

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.58 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After upgrading, it takes 38-40 seconds after a user presses the Submit button when submitting Absence Requests or other workflow transactions for approvals until the task completes. A review of the application server trace shows that the additional time is being spent in PT_MCF_MAIL.MCFOutboundEmail. Further testing showed that by disabling the email notification checkbox on the Absence Management Transaction Registry page and retrying, Absence Requests submission completed instantly with no performance delays.

From the SMTP log, it took 9 secs for app server to lookup the smtp server name:

Sample environment:

PeopleTools 8.58.12
HCM 9.2 PUM33
MS Exchange Server 2019
Issue occurs in UAT and PROD
In UAT, there are 2 VMWare PeopleSoft instances(same Tools version) hosted on the same Windows 2019 box - 1 has the performance issue while the other does not.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1. Go to the Absence Requests page (e.g. Home > Self Service > Time Reporting > Report Time > Absence Request > Request Absence)
2. Click on Check Eligibility.
3. Click on Submit button.
