Goal
Functionality to report Payment Period End Date for Pell and Direct Loans (DL) was delivered in the COD Updates for Aid Year 2022-2023. For more information on the patches, see <Note 2854076.1>. For functional documentation see <Note 2857804.1>.
The purpose of this document is to further clarify some of the details of the processing of Payment Period End Date with the DLOUT and PELLOUT processes. For example:
- A key section of the the Establishing Careers and Programs .PDF states the following: "Select the dates that correspond to the Payment Period Start Date and Payment Period End Date. The default dates are pulled from the Loan Period Start Date and Loan Period End Date values on the Valid Terms for Career page. If the default Validated Start and End Dates are overridden then the updated values are used." It's not completely clear if 'overridden' is meant to refer to values on this same setup page, or something on the student level.
- The Loan Period Start and End dates can be overridden at the student level on the Loan Origination component. For example, the loan period end date could be extended for certain students, past the normal end date of the term (payment period). In this scenario, what was the intent of the design of the calculation of the Payment Period End Date? The results indicate the date comes from the setup, regardless, but shouldn't it be considering the student's loan period end date if that has been overridden?
- If the process is not automatically factoring in a Loan Period End date that has been overridden on the student level, how can or should users be overriding the payment period end date on the student level, in cases where that might be necessary? Are there plans to deliver functionality to allow updating of groups of students in batch, with Population Update, similar to what is currently available for other disbursement-related fields?
