Why Multiple Rows Return on Maintain Applications When Searching by EmplID of Student With Both Primary and Preferred Names ? (Doc ID 2881577.1)

When the Preferred Name Search checkbox is checked under Set Up SACR > Install > Campus Community Installation, Name and Addresses tab, searching application using via
Maintain Applications using EMPLID shows multiple results when there's both Primary and Preferred Names (non-identical) defined for the EMPLID.

This affects other components too (Financial Aid, Student Records, Student Finance).

What this the intent of this feature?
