E-ES: Suggestions Search Not Getting Populated Automatically: 'No results to display' (Doc ID 2897114.1)

Symptoms

On a Peopletools 8.59.08 environment,
though search results were working fine, Global search and Search Test Page results were returned and the communication between Elasticsearch and the Appserver and vice-versa was working,  the suggestion search suddenly stopped working. The returned message in PIA page when one clicked on the suggestion search box with Menu or All as Category was:

No results to display

Moreover, in Peopletools->Portal->Content search->Event Mapping configuration page navigation in PIA, searching for a keyword was leading to:

Invalid Search Category (262,135) PT_SEARCH.SearchCategory.OnExecute
Name:SearchCategory PCPC:1680 Statement:50 Called
from:PTS_SEARCH.SesSearch.OnExecute Name:CreateQueryObj Statement:33 Called
from:PTS_SEARCH.SesSearch.OnExecute Name:Initiate Statement:86 Called
from:PTS_NUI_GBLSRCH.Activate Statement:75
