For 2023-2024 ISIR, after 'Calc EFC' is Invoked for a Dependent Student who Qualified for Simple Formula, the Student’s Dependency Status Changes to Independent, Formula Type 0, and all EFC Fields 0. The Result Should be a Dependent Reject (Doc ID 2911105.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 25, 2024

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise CS Financial Aid - Version 9.2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

For Aid Year 2023-2024, when a dependent student who originally qualified for the simplified formula (Formula 4) has corrections made that are expected to result in the student no longer qualifying for the simplified formula, but no asset information has been reported (all asset fields are blank), the following changes are observed on the Correct 2023-2024 ISIR Records component, after clicking the 'Calc EFC' button.

If the missing asset information is added and 'Calc EFC' is invoked again, all of the noted fields recalculate to the expected values. However, the interim values calculated, as noted above, are an unexpected change from previous Aid Years, where at least a preliminary EFC calculation would still be performed, and the dependency status would change to Dependent - rejected, if there was a reject condition that needed to be resolved.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Financial Aid --> Federal Application Data --> Correct 2023-2024 ISIR records for a dependent student loaded with Formula 4.
  2. Insert a new row and go to the Parent Information tab.
  3. Update the Parent Data - Financial Info section to values that will cause the student to no longer meet the simplified needs test - for example, update the AGI to a value >= 50,000.
  4. Review the results on the EFC\DB matches\Corr tab and Assumptions\School Codes tab, as noted in the bullet points above.

Changes

The issue is seen after applying the 2023-2024 AID YEAR UPDATES FOR ISIR fixes, either from the original (PRP) Patch 33234548 or CS 9.2 PUM Image 27.
