Is the 'INST Field Nbr' on the Institutional Cross Reference Setup Used by Profile Load and is There a Mapping to the CSS Profile Data Reporting Layout? (Doc ID 2922840.1)

On the Set Up SACR > Product Related > Financial Aid > Application Processing > Institutional Cross Reference, there is the field "Inst Field Nbr (institutional application field number) which on-line help says "Displays the institutional application field number that corresponds to the field in the Financial Aid system."

However, the purpose of the field is not clear, since it's not mentioned in the technical reference for the Profile data reporting layout. Is the 'Inst Field Nbr' actually used by the Profile Load process? And if so, is there a mapping that links the fields in CS to the fields on the Profile record layout?
