E-PUM: Deploying Database Step Fails With Error: Unable to Run the Setup Script as User (oinstall) When Using a Non-Root User Account that Contains Hyphen or Dash (Doc ID 2957819.1)

Last updated on JULY 02, 2023

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.59 and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

During a PUM (PeopleSoft Update Manager) installation, the step on deploying the Oracle database server fails when using a non-root user account (for example: user-psoft).

This happens despite making sure that the user is a member of the oinstall group.

The following error can be found in the psft_dpk_setup.log:

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. As the root user, run the prerequisite step to validate the Oracle Central Inventory Location:

     ./psft-dpk-setup.sh --prereq

2. Log in as the non-root user and run the script in deploying the PUM Image:

     ./psft-dpk-setup.sh

3. Supply the necessary details/ credentials for the installation.

4. Notice the error when deploying the Oracle database server.

Changes

Installing the PUM Image using a non-root account with hyphen or dash on the username.
