Last updated on OCTOBER 31, 2023

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.59 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When running a ReportBook or Report Request that generates very large number of reports, in OpenXML mode, to Printer or File output via Process Scheduler, the process ends with the following error message in the message log:

"Process Request shows status of 'INITIATED' or 'PROCESSING' but no longer running."

The nVision log file shows the below error messages logged several times:

"Exception is:The process cannot access the file '\%PS_HOME%\appserv\prcs\<DOMAIN_NAME>\NVISION\INSTANCE\xxx.xlsx' because it is being used by another process."

"Exception is:Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Steps to Replicate:

1. With OpenXML mode configured - set 'UseExcelAutomation=0' under the nVision section in the Process Scheduler configuration file (psprcs.cfg).
2. Log into PIA and navigate to Reporting Tools-> nVision -> Define ReportBook.
3. Select and open a saved ReportBook and run it to Printer or File output on the NT server.
4. The process goes to Error with the above error messages in the nVision Log and Message Log.

When a ReportBook with lesser number of reports is run then it runs to Success.

Changes

Configure OpenXML mode in Tools 8.59 or above to run a ReportBook or Report Request that generates large number of reports.
