Symptoms

When attempting to start the ElasticSearch 6.1.2 or higher, the following errors are shown in the ES_HOME/pt/elasticsearchxxx/bin/nohup.out file or ES_HOME/pt/elasticsearchxxx/logs/<Cluster>.log.

Error:
[1]: max file descriptors [4096] for elasticsearch process is too low, increase to at least [65535]
[2]: max virtual memory areas vm.max_map_count [65530] is too low, increase to at least [262144]


The issue can be reproduced following these steps:
1. Install Elasticsearch on a Linux server.
2. Start Elasticsearch.
