E-NV: NVision Report Runs To Error, "Unrecoverable exception received" Or the Macros Do Not Run in OpenXML Mode with Office 2019 and Above (Doc ID 2990570.1)

Information in this document applies to any platform.


Currently, in the process of upgrading PeopleTools from 8.58.10 to 8.60.09.  As part of the process, also upgrading the MicroSoft Office on the batch server from Office 2016 to Office 2019.
After the upgrade some nVision reports now throw the below Error message in the nVision log.

30340: 1701136060: PSPAL::Abort: Unrecoverable exception received
30340: 1701136060: PSPAL::Abort: Location: C:\PT860P09C_2310082002-retail\peopletools\src\pspal\exception_winunhandled.cpp:577: PSPAL::UnhandledExceptionFilter::RecoverableExceptionFilter
30340: 1701136060: PSPAL::Abort: Generating process state report to E:\psoft\...\appserv\prcs\...\LOGS\PSNVSSRV.EXE.30340\process_state.txt
30340: 1701136060: PSPAL::Abort: Terminating process now.

Variable SFV,CHARTFIELD2 is invalid. (28,7)
 Message Set Number: 28
 Message Number: 7
 Message Reason: Variable SFV,CHARTFIELD2 is invalid. (28,7)

Steps to Replicate:

1. Log into PIA and navigate to Reporting Tools-> PS/nVision -> PS/nVision Schedule Requests.
2. Select the Business Unit and Report ID.
3. Run the nVision report.
4. The process goes to Error status in Process Monitor with the above error message in the nVision Log and Message Log.


 Upgrade to MicroSoft Office 2019.
