Select Students Step of Batch Budgets Runs to Error with FAPBDGTS Cobol Log File Displaying 'FAPBUDGD - ERROR READING FATERM TBL' and 'SQL ERROR IN SECTION: R21000-GET-STUDENT (FETCH)' (Doc ID 3011249.1)

Symptoms

When running the Select Students step (FAPBDGTS) of the Assign Budgets batch processing sequence, the process finishes in 'Error' status, with the following messages indicated in the cobol log file:

 

FAPBUDGD - ERROR READING FATERM TBL ID=38342 QNS INST=01124 TERM=6202 AID YR=5GRA CAREER=D
FAPBUDGD - SQL ERROR IN SECTION: R21000-GET-STUDENT (FETCH)

Application Program Failed
 In Pgm Section : R21000-GET-STUDENT (FETCH)
 With Return Code: 00001
 Error Message :

FAPBUDGD - PERFORMING DATABASE ROLLBACK AT 18.55.10.850000 ON 2024-03-12



The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Financial Aid > Budgets > Assign Budgets > Select Students and run the process.
  2. In Process Monitor, note when process finishes in 'Error' status.
  3. Click the 'Details' link for the instance, then the link 'View Log/Trace', then the .log file in the file list to review the full details of the error



Changes

The issue may typically be experienced after applying new application patches that require recompiling the cobol codeline. For example, one reported instance of the problem occurred after applying Patch 35043037 and/or other subsequent fixes related to FAFSA Simplification.
