In Self Service for Aid Year 2024-2025, the Need Summary When Viewed by Aid Year Shows Estimated Need Inflated When Student Aid Index (SAI) is Negative, and all SAI Values Show as Doubled (Doc ID 3015196.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 11, 2024

Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In Student Self Service, both FLUID and Classic, the Aid Year 2025 Need Summary for some students shows the Student Aid Index (SAI) doubled, and the Estimated Need inflated if the SAI is negative.

The issue(s) occurs ONLY when the 'View Data By' field, on the Self Service Options Inquiry tab, is set to 'Aid Year'. If this field is set to 'Award Period', the SAI and Estimated Need display the correct, expected amounts for each separate award period.

The doubling of the SAI will occur for any amount, positive or negative. This doubling presumably happens because the same SAI value is populated on both the Academic and Non-Standard Award Period rows for Aid Year 2025. The incorrect inflation of the estimated need occurs only when the SAI is negative. In these cases, the positive equivalent of the SAI is added onto the need (ie Estimated need = COA -- SAI, or COA+SAI).

The issue can be reproduced with the following steps:

  1. On Set Up SACR > Common Definitions > Self Service > Financial Aid > Self Service Options > Inquiry for Aid Year 2025, make sure 'View Data By' is set to 'Aid Year' and not 'Award Period'.
  2. Identify a student with loaded ISIR and negative SAI, on Financial Aid > Federal Application Data > Correct ISIR records.  The SAI value is can be queried as needed from ISIR_COMPUTED.PRIMARY_EFC.
  3. Click the 'Need Summary' link on the page to verify the same SAI value is populated on both award period rows.
  4. Logged in as the student, navigate using either the Financial Aid Tile > select Aid Year if needed > Click Financial Aid Summary then Need Summary; OR Self Service > Student Center > click 'View Financial Aid' link > select Aid Year if needed.
  5. Note SAI is doubled and Estimated Need inflated.

Changes

The issue occurs after applying all of the available fixes related to FAFSA Simplification up through and including the 31 fixes delivered in PeopleSoft Release Patchset (PRP) Patch 36159970: 2024-2025 FM ADDITIONAL UPDATES #3.
