E-FTP: Unable To Download .7z File Extension in Any of the File Attachment Page in Chrome/Edge Browser, It Is Trying To Show the File in New Window Instead of Downloading It and Showing Garbled Text Characters. (Doc ID 3057568.1)

Symptoms

In 8.59.x when a user clicks to view the an .7z file attachment, it is downloading the .7z format file but in PT8.60.x and above it is trying to show the file in new window instead of downloading it and showing garbled text characters page.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

Test Case:1
- Log into PIA
- Navigation: General Ledger > Journals > Journal Entry > Create/Update Journal Entries.
- Click on the Attachment link
- On clicking on the link, system tried to open the attachment through web, instead of auto downloading. -
- When we view attachment (7z file) is opening automatically on new tab with garbled text characters

 

Test Case: 2
- Navigate to: PeopleTools > Utilities > Debug > PeopleTools Test Utilities
- For URL Id or String URL text box, enter: enter your FTP URL or enter: RECORD://PSFILE_ATTDET
- Use the "Attach" button to upload the .7z file
- Use the "View" button to download the file

-When we view attachment (.7z file) is opening automatically on new tab with garbled text characters
