In December 2019, the SECURE (Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement) Act was passed by Congress. The original legislation created changes for long-term retirement savings for Americans of every age. On December 29, 2022, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 (HR 2617) was signed into law to include important provisions affecting retirement savings plans with the intent to build upon the 2019 SECURE Act. These new provisions are collectively referred to as SECURE 2.0, which is designed to make it more attractive for employers to offer retirement plans and easier for all levels of employees to start savings.
These new provisions include a higher limit on catch up contributions to Savings Plans for employees aged 60 through 63, automatic enrollment of employees in the plans, automatic increment of employee contribution percentages, and the requirement that catch up contributions for certain highly compensated employees be directed to Roth Savings Plans rather than regular 401K Plans.
The table below lists all patches related to enhancements and patches related to Secure 2.0 functionality.
