Purpose
This is a "living document" which is updated whenever new information is available.
A unique constraint error means that an attempt has been made to insert a record with a duplicate key structure of an existing record. This error can also be generated if an existing record is updated to generate a duplicate key.
The error message and text can vary by Platform/RDBMS -- Here are some of the variations:
