Customers set the file descriptor limit to a value higher than 1024 at the OS level, but it appears as if WebLogic always sets it back or ignores the new value. This only happens with WebLogic 8.1 Service Pack #3  (ie WebLogic 8.1 SP3) and higher WebLogic 8.1 SP's. Messages like these are seen in the PIA_weblogic.log:

<BEA-000416> <Using effective file descriptor limit of: 1,024 open sockets/files.>

When the 1,024 limit is reached, the Webserver can go down with messages like these:

####<Apr 17, 2009 11:21:01 AM PDT> <Error> <Socket> <myserver> <PIA> <ExecuteThread: '41' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default'> <> <> <BEA-000435> <Unable to initiate read for the socket. The maximum allowed number of pending IO requests (1,024) have exceeded.>
