How to turn on/off the Auto Search for Lookup buttons in PIA?

When you hit a prompt button to perform a lookup, the lookup page is empty. You need to enter the criteria and hit the search button in order to perform the search. How can the lookup page be automatically populated with data? Is there a way to change that, system wide?
