CRM Collection is built on the Process Scheduler Machine and the various Application Servers need to attach to the Collection to search. If the Application Server and Process Scheduler are on the same PS_HOME then the Application Server can attach to the collection but if they are on different machines or there are multiple Application Servers in the Environment then the Search Server can be setup for the searches.

The Document explains how to do the Setup of Search Server so as the Solution Advisor can be used in Multiple Application Server Environments.

The Pre-Req is to be using PeopleTools Version Eg 8.48 or 8.49 which has Search Server.
