Symptoms

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Processes submitted to the Process Scheduler go to success. However when they are handed off to the Distribution Server, there is an error "SSLHandshakeException" "Untrusted Server Certificate Chain" during the Posting process and the processes go to Distribution Status = Not Posted.

Alternative error message for the same problem:  ""Java exception thrown: javax.n et.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: unknown certificate"

WHAT IS KNOWN SO FAR:

1) Files are not transferred to the psreports repository because of the error and hence they build up in the scheduler log_output directory.

2) The links to the View Log/Trace are not present on the Details page, and hence report output files cannot be viewed from the web by the end users.

3) Reported in the DMO environment

4) Environment
PeopleTools Release 8.4x
All Platforms

5) Report Node is configured using:
- SSL
- Fully qualified domain name

6) Process scheduler on the same box as the web server may work fine. Process schedulers on other boxes do not post

7) When attempting to post a process to the psreports directory, the following error occurs:

ERROR
-----------------------
Java exception thrown: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: Untrusted Server Certificate Chain

STEPS
-----------------------
By following these steps the issue can be reproduced:
1. Login to the HDMO environment
2. Navigate to Process Scheduler > System Process Requests
3. Submit a process to WEB/PDF
4. Navigate to Process Scheduler > Process Monitor
5. Observe the process goes to Not Posted Distribution Status
6. Open the LOGS\DSTAGNT_mmdd.LOG and see that the entry for this process is
Java exception thrown: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: Untrusted Server Certificate Chain
