E-REN: WebLogic RPS Server Hangs when used in Front of REN Server (Doc ID 944456.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 23, 2019

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.44 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

The WebLogic RPS occasionally stops responding when used in front of a REN server. Below are other symptoms you will see.

If running a REN Server Ping test, you receive this message:

init-tunnel failed to transmit after delay of 4 seconds
init-tunnel failed to transmit after delay of 8 seconds
etc etc

If running a report to window, the following occurs:
   - "Queued" Window may appear
   - Then the following error is displayed: Unable to connect to the REN Server

If you view the active RPS threads, via WebLogic console (using "Monitoring" tab), you'll see that all threads are busy and may be executing favicon.ico.  Example:
       http Request: /favicon.ico

Running 'netstat -an' from command prompt, shows hundreds of connections to the RPS server:

TCP 10.555.7.777:2169 ESTABLISHED

If you have the http access log enabled for the RPS, you may see lots of these entries:

111.777.88.999 - - [23/Sep/2009:16:20:58 -0700] "GET /favicon.ico HTTP/1.1" 500 21

Refer to the following solutions for information on how enable http access logging in WebLogic:
