Two instances of the Email Server Daemon ESD not changing the Marketing Campaign Wave Launch status to Completed

Two instances of the Email Server Daemon (ESD) were setup for email and SMS campaign treatments on the same physical server box. This is as described as the solution to a problem in Doc Id 1263444.1 for wireless treatments. The 2 ESDs each had different Tomcat web server port number setup and the Siebel outbound web services were setup for each ESD.
The Marketing Campaign worked correctly and sent out the SMS and email treatments but the second ESD was not able to set the Wave Launch task as 'Completed', it stays 'In Progress' although the ESD had finished the job. The second ESD service was occasionally crashing and the ESD log file had the following error:
