Attachments in the Mobile Connected Applications

(1) In standard only in ePharma Mobile Connected available
Despite the bookshelf (Siebel Mobile Guide: Connected Version 8.1, Rev. B) the attachment functionality is available only in the Siebel Mobile Connected Application for Siebel Pharma 18.104.22.168 and above.
In 22.214.171.124 the attachment feature was not implemented.
The usage is also slightly different than described in the bookshelf.
iOS devices (iPad, iPhone) do not allow access to the file system. Therefore the "New File" button allows only
- to attach a photo or video to be taken immediately with the camera
- to attach a photo or video from the galery
non-iOS devices allow additionally to select attachments via applications like bluetooth-filetransfer or file-browsers.
depending on the display resolution/sizes it may happen that the "New URL" shortcut for attachments is unavailable in portrait format. In this case change to landscape format and the "New URL" shortcut is visible again.
(2) In standard not all document types can be viewed
It was found that by default attachments of type JPG, DOC, PPT, XLS can be viewed in the mobile application.
Some formats, like DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, TXT, cannot be viewed, and a browser error message is displayed.
To view a Siebel attachment the browser must be able to render the document type. This can be tested when searching in the internet for a hyperlink to a document of that type. Then click on the link and verify that the document displays. It was found that the mobile browsers can display DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, and TXT documents. Just when used as attachment in Sieel Mobile Connected they do not display.
