Safari 7 on iPhone with iOS 7.0.4 / 7.1 9.0 cannot login to Siebel Sales Mobile - network error reported in Safari (Doc ID 1639090.1)

Goal

While access to salesmobile_enu is done successfully from other machines, using Safari 7 on an iPhone with IOS 7.0.x, 9.0 no access to the Siebel Sales Mobile application.

For a split second the login screen is shown, then errors:

"Safari cannot open this page because the network connection was interrupted"
"Safari Cannot open the page because the network connection was lost."
