Barcode Characters Are Not Correctly Displayed In Report Output

Symptoms
Displaying barcode characters within a normal report is possible. It is achieved by changing the font for the barcode fields to a barcode font. The standard report "Service Request Detail - Barcode" should demonstrate this. It can be executed for example from the "All Service Request List View". Information like account, description, SR number should be in normal font, and additionally the SR number should be displayed as barcode.
The template files are srvreqdt.rtf and srvreqdt.xsl, for the barcode the font "BC 3of9" is selected. The BIP server does not have by default the 3of9 barcode installed. So the 3of9 barcode font file must first be copied to the BIP servers font folder and a font mapping must be created.
However, although the setup is correct the barcode does not appear. The report shows instead a sequence of rectangles.
