CRM Desktop: Creating Custom Validation on Activities Field.

How to create a custom field validations for appointments ? If field "Type" is set to "Call", CRM Desktop should show a popup confirmation message with OK and Cancel buttons.
The following syntax "ctx.form.item.snapshot['Type']", does not capture the field value for the activities but works fine for the contacts form.
