Purpose
Innovation Pack 2016 provides a developer’s preview to the Siebel Product Configurator’s use of the Oracle ACT library. This module will not be supported in a Production Environment however customers can log SRs and receive their regular Oracle support. Oracle ACT is a library of algorithms found in the field of Constraint Programming (CP). Constraint programming is a programming paradigm where relations between variables can be stated in the form of constraints. Constraints differ from the common primitives of other programming languages in that they do not specify a step or sequence of steps to execute but rather the properties of a solution to be found.
Oracle ACT will power the constraint engine of the future for Siebel Product Configurator and will eventually replace the current library (ILOG). The phasing out of the ILOG library is part of product management’s overall strategy to move the Siebel Product Configurator module to forward looking technology that can support the demands of our installed base. More information on the timeline of the library switch will be made available as soon as the implementation of the ACT library begins to become production read. This is currently slated for release no sooner than Siebel Innovation Pack 2017.
