Symptoms

PRODUCT VERSIONS:
------------------------------
SIEBEL VERSION: 8.1.1.11.3 [IP2013]

ISSUE STATEMENT:
----------------------------
Customizations have been made in the Siebel application with custom scripting on the Activity Attachment, where there is code that validates if attachment file size is more than 3 MB coming in from inbound web services.

When a GIF file attachment is around 2.9 MB (not quite at 3 MB limit yet), Siebel application errors out when trying to create the activity attachment with this 2.9 MB file. The same error occurs when using Siebel Client UI to attach the same 2.9 MB GIF file attachment as well.

ERROR MESSAGE:
--------------------------
The error message that occurs with this issue is:

"Error invoking service 'EAI Siebel Adapter', method 'Upsert' at step 'Create SR'.(SBL-BPR-00162)
--
Method 'WriteRecord' of business component 'Action Attachment' (integration component 'Action Attachment') for record with search specification '[ActivityFileExt] = "gif" AND [ActivityFileName] = "GIF pic1 - 3mb.gif"' returned the following error:"The size of the attachment must not be greater than 3000000 bytes - please 'Undo' the attachment record. Attachments can be reduced by creating a comp"

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
---------------------------------
The behaviour occurs as follows:

1. Save the attached GIF_pic1_-_3mb_-_Copy__4_.gif to the local user machine.

2. Launch Siebel application > navigate to Activity screen > choose an activity > Attachment applet > attach this GIF_pic1_-_3mb_-_Copy__4_.gif to the attachment applet, the error occurs.

LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY / BUSINESS IMPACT:
--------------------------------------------
Due to the error message, attachments with close to 3 MB in size are not able to get inserted into the Siebel application.
