Usage Pattern Tracking (UPT) Does not Process Files when Object Managers and Workflow Managers Installed on Different Servers (Doc ID 2248631.1)

Last updated on MARCH 20, 2023

Applies to:

Siebel CRM - Version 15.7 [IP2015] and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

During execution of the job for processing Usage Pattern Tracking (UPT) data files, it was determined that the UPT files were not being picked up by the workflow, as expected.

BACKGROUND

Usage Pattern Tracking (UPT) allows administrators to review details about when and how often users access the features in a Siebel application.

To capture information about this user access, administrators set up a component job to run at a scheduled date and time or at time intervals that they specify.

The System Preference 'UPT Max Record Count' sets the number of records for usage pattern tracking that are kept in memory.  When memory exceeds the number of records that are specified for this system preference, the records are moved to .csv files for users at the following location: siebsrvr\upt\username.

Eventually, the UPT Process workflow moves the information in the .csv files to tables in the Siebel database.

SCENARIO

In this scenario, there are three Siebel Servers:

Server 1 - Workflow Process and Workflow Process Batch Manager (WfProcBatchMgr)are installed and running.

Server 2 - Application Object Manager (AOM) ==> UPT .csv files can be created here.

Server 3 - Application Object Manager (AOM) ==> UPT .csv files can be created here.

As shown in the above architecture, the Workflow Process and Workflow Process Batch Managers are installed on Server 1.  The Application Object Managers are installed on Server 2 and Server 3.

The Users' UPT files are created on Server 2 and Server 3 since the application is running on those servers.

When the application tries to import the UPT .csv data files into the Siebel tables using the "UPT Process" Workflow (via  Administration > Jobs), the process cannot locate the UPT files since the Workflow Process Batch Manager is installed on a different server from the Application Object Managers.

The UPT .csv files are created on either Server 1 or Server 2, based upon which server was logged into by the user.  The "UPT Process" Workflow processes the files correctly if they are created on Server 1 under the expected siebsrvr\upt\username folder.
