Last updated on JULY 06, 2020

Applies to:

Siebel CRM - Version 16.11 [IP2016] and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On : 16.11 [IP2016] version, Upgrade

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR
---------------
When the SiebelRestCompIntMgr component is enabled and running to host the Java Web Container on Unix OS, it also results in many occurrences of [catalina.sh] <defunct> processes

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
-----------------------
Defunct processes should not be generated

STEPS
-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1.  Enable the Siebel SiebelRestCompIntMgr component for Java Web Container
2.  This will start up the Tomcat application server
3.  The Java Web Container itself works fine, however, over a period of time, there are many orphaned/zombie defunct processes when doing a listing of them as follows:

$ ps -ef | grep siebel

[catalina.sh] <defunct>

BUSINESS IMPACT
-----------------------

In some cases, these defunct process take up memory and causes the server to run out of memory, generating a system performance issue.
