Delays seen in queries performed by users through Siebel GUI (Doc ID 2430291.1)

Goal

Experiencing huge delays on queries performed by users through Siebel GUI. Also noticed that for queries performed with text fields, Siebel adds an asterisk (*) and the SQL produced contains LIKE operator.
Is this the default behavior of Siebel? Where can this be configured?
