Possibility To Activate Task From Backend Through Workflow Process Or Business Service?

When currently introducing Task UI into application, one feature is desirable which is to use automated deployment to activate Tasks through a backend process (i.e. Workflow Process or Business Service).
Is there any functionality that supports this requirement?
For workflows there is Workflow Admin Service for this.
From tracing an task activation from UI I noticed that service Workflow Administration with method ActivateTask is invoked. Unfortunatly this service is not documented.
Please provide more insights about methods and input/output arguments for this service.
