Email File Attached under Attachments Applet Gets Saved with Incorrect Attachment Name and Type (Doc ID 2587704.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 01, 2022

Applies to:

Siebel CRM - Version 17.6 [IP2017] to 19.12 [Release V17]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

a) When attaching an email file in .eml format that has a normal attachment or inline attachment (of type .pdf, .docx,.xlsx,.png, .jpg etc) under Attachments Applet, Siebel replaces the Attachment Name and Type of the .eml file being attached with the name and type of the file attachment contained within the .eml file.

For example if the user attaches a .eml file - ‘Email with PNG attachment.eml’ containing an attachment image002.png, the name in Siebel attachment record shows 'image002' and type as png.

When the user downloads this png attachment from the Siebel Attachment record, it doesn't open in image editor tool and seems to be corrupted.

However opening this downloaded png attachment with a text editor shows the mime content of the actual .eml file instead.

If this png attachment ‘image002.png’ downloaded from the Siebel attachment record is renamed as 'Test.eml', it opens up fine with any email client like Outlook and renders the complete email along with the attachment.

So it looks like Siebel saves a mime copy of the attached .eml file, but replaces the name and type with the file attached within.

b) From Siebel version 18.10 onwards, it has been noticed that in addition to the above issue, for some cases while attaching the .eml file having an embedded image (inline attachment) the below error is thrown and the record cannot be saved:
