Sending Emails Fails With SMTP DATA error: 503 5.5.2 Need rcpt command

In PROD environment, when trying to send an Email using F9, it fails. Using the same configuration in DEV environment the Emails are sent successful.
Here are the sample steps to see the issue:
- Login to Siebel application.
- Go to 'Accounts'->'Accounts List' view.
- Select a record.
- Press F9 key (or from application menu 'File'->'Send Email'.
- But the email is not sent to the email address. Also the activity record in 'Accounts'->'Activities' does not have 'Done' on Status field.
The CommOutboundMgr log shows the following error:
