Siebel Should Not Allow Adding LOV's with LIC Having More Than 30 Characters (Doc ID 2729233.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 18, 2020

Applies to:

Siebel Tools - Version 20.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Siebel should not allow adding LOVs with Language-Independent Code (LIC) having more than 30 characters

After upgraded from IP13 to 20.x, the error "Data value for field 'Sub Type' is larger than the limit 30 defined in the database" occurs when trying to associate a Parent LOV to the Child LOV. The error occurs because the Parent LIC field has a max length of 50 and the 'Sub Type' field has a max length of 30. When setting the parent LOV to a child, it also copies the Parent LIC to the 'Sub Type' field.  For more detail on this behavior, review  Error SBL-DAT-00362 When Selecting a Parent LOV with the LIC Larger Then 30 Characters (Doc ID 2624321.1)

The workaround is to manually fix the LIC data to be less than 30 chars.

However, vanilla Siebel allows adding LIC with more than 30 characters, and some vanilla LIC have more than 30 chars too.
If those LOV's are to converted to hierarchical, the same problem will occur.

For consistency – if everything has to be confined in 30 characters, the Siebel application should not allow adding LOVs with more than 30 characters and should block the behavior from happening in the application.

STEPS
-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Log into Siebel Application

2. Go to Administration - Data > List of Values view

3. Create a LOV with more than 30 chars on the Language-Independent Code field, save

This is not desired, Siebel should not allow adding LOVs with more than 30 characters on the LIC field.  This caused the undesired behavior in  Error SBL-DAT-00362 When Selecting a Parent LOV with the LIC Larger Then 30 Characters (Doc ID 2624321.1)
