List Import Does Not Insert Contacts in the Internal List

The following issue was reported with marketing import functionality:
Requirement was to import a list of contacts and also add these contacts to an internal list. For this purpose when the marketing import job was setup an internal list was created and associated with the job.
Correct import mapping and job setup were performed but after executing the import the result was: the contacts from the import file were successfully imported but the for the internal list there was only 1 record created with CON_PER_ID = NULL. Expected behavior is that all contacts imported or matched from existing contacts should be added to the list and the CON_PER_ID should be filled with row_ids of the contacts.
It was found that the following configuration change triggered the problem: the Status key of the "Contact" integration component under "Contact Integration Object_SIA" IO was deactivated.
