How to make a Product Commercially non-Available using Asset Based Ordering

Scenario: Particular child product(Service/Add-on ABC) is available as a part of several promotions.

These are converted to assets. After a period of time some promotions are to be stopped (like Diwali Offers), but there are customers who still have this active.

If the child product Service/Add-on ABC is removed from definition of specific Promotions (eg Relationship domain) , the Service/Add-on will not be available for ordering in these Promotions.

The problem is that if some user requests to modifies a subscriptions(order) which has this Service/Add-on active, the following error will be raised:
