Symptoms
When attempting to upgrade Siebel using the Upgrade Factory On-Premise functionality, it fails, and the following error can be seen in upgrep_dev_<source-version>\output\upgwiz.log:
Error 1 (err=1) was returned by application (D:\Siebel\siebsrvr\bin\UpgradeFactory.exe -p D:\Siebel\siebsrvr/bin/parameters.ini -m RepAnalyzer).
UpgradeLog UpgradeError: There was an error in launching the application.
The following steps can be executed to verify the behavior:
1. Install the Siebel target on-premise version and prepare Siebel for the Upgrade Factory execution. Check the instructions in Siebel Database Upgrade Guide > Siebel CRM Upgrade Factory On Premise.
2. After preparing the payload, use an API client to trigger the POST API to start the upgrade.
3. It may fail, and it can be necessary to resume it by running the PUT API. The PUT API will start the upgrade from scratch, causing the duplicate and other errors.
