Unable to close the internet explorer ( IE ) Browser when logging off (Doc ID 494459.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 22, 2019

Applies to:

Siebel Tools - Version SIA [16066] to 16.19 [IP2016] [Release V7 to V16]
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

We have a new security requirement to kill the IE Browser session when the user logs off from Siebel in Thin Client. However, the user is always returned to the Login page.

We have trapped the "Logoff" method" which appears to be the only method being fired when the user presses "File>Logout". However, we do not seem to be able to close the IE Browser.

We tried to use the window.close() method, but this seems to get ignored. We also tried a top.close() which also gets ignored.
Our last option  was trying to set the top.location to a particular location, but this seems to append the value at the end of the start line..

We have searched on bookshelf and help but have not seen any useful references/similar experiences. We found one which refers to using the DOM with window.close method, but we are not sure how this can be done.

What can we do?
