Siebel Performance number of CPU physical or logical? (Doc ID 500332.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 25, 2020

Applies to:

Siebel System Software - Version 7.8.2.3 [19221] and later
IBM AIX on POWER Systems (64-bit)
Version: 7.8.2.3 [19221]

Database: IBM DB2 for zOS and OS/390 v8

Application Server OS: IBM AIX 5L 5.2

Database Server OS: IBM AIX 5L 5.2

Symptoms

Throughout the Siebel’s “Performance Tuning Guide”, e.g. pages 178, 182, there are references to the “number_of_CPUs” on server.

Since we are running on AIX v5.3 (un-virtualized), could you please clarify whether “number_of_CPUs” represent physical or logical number of CPUs on a server, especially when values are used to set values for environment variables YIELDLOOPTIME and MALLOCMULTIHEAP. For example, an IBM p595 1.9 GHz processor reports two logical CPUs – due to its single processor dual core architecture.
